We’re suckers for an interior design trend here at Toons. In the interests of staying ahead of the pack, we like to keep abreast of all the lastest ideas. And when a new year rolls around there’s plenty of predictions to sink our teeth into.
In this blog post, we’ll give you a run-down of the biggest and best interior design trends we can find. Plus, we’ll share a few tips on how you can use them to the best effect in your home.
Personality Power
Health and wellness were the buzzwords of 2019. And this trend of looking after ourselves, and being true to ourselves in now carrying through into our homes. For 2020, it’s all about communicating our personality through our home decor. Forget Instagrammable show home chic. This year is about filling our home with furniture, soft furnishings and decor that makes us truly happy and at home.
The beauty of this trend is that it is driven by what truly makes you happy - and that is unlikely to ever go out of style. We’re talking quirky decor (if that’s your thing), family heirlooms, feature walls jam packed with family pictures and cosy, comfortable furniture.
Another advantage of using personality power in your home is that you it’s easy to change things up if you like. All you have to do is decide on a colour scheme. Then, the world truly is your oyster as you explore furniture and lighting to match!
Sustainable Living
Sustainable living and eco-friendly lifestyles are becoming an increasing priority for many of us. As a result, many of us are choosing to make more ecologically conscious purchase decisions in all areas of our lives.
This is also reflected in our homes and interior design, with more of us choosing to invest in natural, sustainable materials from our carpets to bed linens, towels, furniture and soft furnishings.
Ethical furniture and furnishings are becoming more readily available to consumers in 2020. For example, towards the end of last year we introduced the SEDNA range of carpets from Associated Weavers. These are made with ECONYL regenerated nylon, which is crafted from old carpets and abandoned fishing nets.
Vibrant & Eclectic
Neutrals have held firm in home decor for a while, but the tide is changing. More and more of us are turning away from greys, creams and whites and instead favouring warm colours, jewel tones and more intense hues.
Although Pantone’s Colour of 2020 is Classic Blue, pink is set to explode onto the interior design scene this year. Alongside, luxurious hues such as mustard yellow and green. The key to pulling off a vibrant and eclectic look is the use of variant textures to create an opulent finish. Think silky smooth velvet sofas and cushions paired with fluffy rugs, or oil paintings alongside sleek and smooth finishing touches, like lighting or hardwood floors.
